Who is Butch Harmon?

  • Many people may not know Butch Harmon although they do know his students which include Tom Kite, David Duval and Tiger Woods.  Butch Harmon is currently the #1 rated golf instructor in the world.

What is the RehabAuthority Back in the Swing Golf Program?

  • The RehabAuthority Back in the Swing Golf Program was originally designed by Butch Harmon and a group of physical therapists for rehabilitation of professional golfers with back problems. The program was specifically designed with golfers in mind and trains all phases of the golf swing. A correct golf swing requires flexibility in the spine, shoulders and hips as well as strength in the trunk and low back. The RehabAuthority Back in the Swing Golf Program is designed to improve your game by strengthening and stretching specific mechanical problems many people have. By correcting physical weaknesses and inflexibilities many mechanical swing faults can be eliminated.

Is this program the same as taking lessons?

  • No.The object of this program is to improve faulty body mechanics, strength and flexibility issues. We encourage most of our participants to take lessons while they participate in our program so they can learn to use their new found strength and flexibility correctly. We have relationships with many of the golf pros in the Treasure Valley and we can give you recommendations upon request.

How do flexibility and strength affect my game?

  • Flexibility and strength are two vital aspects of every golfer's swing. Two areas that most golfers are deficient are hamstring flexibility and rotational strength of the trunk. “If you look at the long hitters of today, the make very little hip turn on the back swing and a huge shoulder turn. Rotary torso training will help you achieve this.”  --Butch Harmon--  Most people do not like to stretch because it is difficult to measure gains. Many people simply do not know how to stretch and due to their inflexibility it is impossible to do it correctly without assistance. The MedX Stretch is currently used on the PGA and Senior PGA tour at every tournament.  It solves the problems associated with stretching allowing the user to stretch on their own and measure gains. The RehabAuthority Back in the Swing Golf Program has 6 basic stretches that take approximately five minutes to complete.

How does club head speed affect my game?

  • It has been demonstrated that every mile per hour that club head speed is increased equates to two yards of distance. This number becomes even more significant when you realize that this applies to every club in your bag; Many golfers will spend hundreds of dollars on a driver that may add 10-15 yards of distance and that they will use 9-10 times on the course.  It is not unusual for participants in our program to notice a 5-10 mile per hour increase in their club head speed in the first 30-60 days.

Who should participate in this program?

  • This program has been designed for golfers of all levels. Anyone interested in increasing their flexibility, hitting the ball farther or eliminating pain during their golf game is a good candidate. Many women and seniors notice significant improvements in their distance as strength and flexibility improve.

How long does the program last?

  • The program is typically 12 visits over 4-5 weeks, with each visit lasting approximately 30 minutes. Each visit is closely supervised and all progress is documented. During the initial session measurements are taken of club head speed and general flexibility. This is followed by computerized testing of the low back analyzing strength, endurance and range of motion. These measurements are repeated at the program’s completion. The average user will realize a 25-50% gain in range of motion and it is not uncommon for seniors to improve 75-100%.
